Indiana’s Biggest Recruiting Showcase? Ohio State Weekend Brings Blue-Chip Prospects to Bloomington

By Coach Griff | HoosierTailgate.com | October 13, 2026

Saturday’s No. 4 Ohio State at No. 5 Indiana matchup is one of the biggest games ever played in Bloomington. It is also an opportunity that reaches well beyond this season. Curt Cignetti and his staff are preparing to host a substantial group of committed players and nationally recruited prospects. The question is no longer whether Indiana can compete on college football’s biggest stage. It is how the Hoosiers turn that success into sustained recruiting momentum.

According to reporting from Steve Wiltfong at TheHoosier.com and TheHoosier.com’s recruiting scoop, the visitor group is expected to include much of Indiana’s 2027 commitment class, important in-state 2028 targets and five-star receiver Braylon Clark. These are reported expected visitors as of October 13, not a confirmed Saturday attendance list.

2027: A Chance to Bring the Class Together

One of the most significant parts of this recruiting weekend is the expected presence of nearly the entire 2027 commitment class. Among the names reported are Monshun Sales, Branden Sharpe, Myles Smith, Mason McDermott, Brady Scott, Da’Jon Talley-Rhodes and Reinaldo Perez.

From a coaching perspective, that matters. A recruiting class is not just a collection of individual prospects. It is a group that will have to learn to compete together, trust one another and eventually lead a football team. Getting commitments together in a game environment allows them to experience the program as future teammates. It also gives them a chance to help recruit the next class.

Braylon Clark: A Five-Star Receiver Watching the Offense

The headline visitor is Braylon Clark, a 2028 wide receiver from Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina. The reports place Clark at No. 14 in the Rivals Industry Rankings and No. 7 in Rivals’ own rankings. Ohio State is described as an early leader, with other national powers involved.

For Indiana, the most compelling recruiting presentation may happen between the lines. Clark is evaluating how programs feature their wide receivers. The Hoosiers can point to the roles of Nick Marsh and Charlie Becker as evidence of how their offense involves playmakers. There is no substitute for a prospect seeing receiver usage, route concepts, quarterback decision-making and offensive adjustments in a major game.

Indiana also has a 2028 quarterback commitment in Lukas Prock, whom the report identifies as the No. 4 quarterback in the Rivals Industry Rankings. The opportunity to build relationships between future offensive prospects is another element of this weekend.

Indiana’s 2028 In-State Targets Take Center Stage

Four important in-state 2028 prospects are expected in Bloomington: Theo Schott (tight end, Zionsville), Sam Hirschy (defensive line), Maddox Weil (wide receiver) and Javier McCoy (linebacker). All are described in the reporting as Rivals300 prospects.

These are competitive recruitments. Notre Dame is prominently involved with Schott and Weil; Indiana is reported among the leading contenders for Hirschy, alongside other major programs; and McCoy has drawn attention from Notre Dame and Purdue. None should be described as an Indiana commitment.

For Schott and Weil, the offensive scheme and positional development will be important. For Hirschy and McCoy, the way Indiana plays defense—and how its staff teaches and develops defenders—will be equally significant. Keeping elite in-state talent home requires more than a memorable Saturday. It requires demonstrating a clear path for each player’s development.

A National Visitor List Across Positions

The reported group extends well beyond Indiana. Other Rivals300 prospects expected include CJ Craig-James (safety, Alabama), Carter Barrett (offensive line, Iowa), Landon Dawson (tight end, Ohio), Xavier Bowman (cornerback), Pierce Washington (wide receiver, Tennessee), Merrick Hamm (tight end) and Frank Atangana (cornerback, Georgia).

Additional prospects identified in the reports include offensive linemen Carson Adkins and Collin Burris, tight end Bennett Conyers, and linebacker Jess Officer. Younger reported visitors include Caiden Snow (tight end), Carson Sloan (edge rusher) and Sam Holcomb (quarterback).

That range of positions matters. Recruiting at a championship level requires talent and depth across the roster, not just a handful of highly rated skill players.

Three Things Coach Griff Will Be Watching

1. Player Development, Not Just the Scoreboard

Prospects will see how Indiana responds to Ohio State’s personnel and schemes, how coaches communicate on the sideline and whether players execute their assignments under pressure. Those observations can be more persuasive than a recruiting presentation.

2. How the 2027 Class Connects With Future Targets

Indiana has an opportunity to bring committed players and future targets together. Relationships between players matter, particularly when prospects are considering whether they fit the program’s culture.

3. The Follow-Up After Saturday

Visits are important, but they are not commitments. The true recruiting impact will become clearer through follow-up conversations, additional visits, changes in recruiting momentum and ultimately signed players. We will distinguish reported interest from verified decisions in our recruiting coverage.

Coach Griff’s Final Word

Indiana’s national championship has changed the conversation. A program that once had to sell recruits on what it hoped to become can now show them what it has accomplished. Saturday is a tremendous opportunity, but the real value comes from the culture, development and relationships that exist long after the stadium empties.

Recruiting is about projecting what a young man can become and showing him a credible plan to get there. That is what Cignetti and his staff have a chance to demonstrate this weekend.

Fast. Physical. Relentless.
