Hoosier Football Tailgate Tonight: Indiana’s Historic Michigan Win, Defensive Dominance & CFP Debate
Hoosier Football Tailgate returns LIVE tonight, Monday, October 26, at 7:30 PM ET. Coach Griff breaks down Indiana’s 13–6 overtime victory at Michigan, the Hoosiers’ defensive dominance, offensive concerns, and the developing College Football Playoff debate.
For the first time since 1967, Indiana left Michigan Stadium with a victory. It wasn’t an offensive masterpiece, but the Hoosiers found a way to win. Now comes the bigger question: can Indiana continue winning against elite competition without greater offensive production?
Defense Carrying the Hoosiers
Defensive coordinator Bryant Haines has his unit playing outstanding football. Against Michigan, Indiana recorded four sacks and ten tackles for loss while keeping the Wolverines out of the end zone.
Tonight, Coach Griff examines Indiana’s defensive performance over the last 12 quarters, beginning with the second half against Nebraska and continuing through Ohio State and Michigan. We’ll look at pressure, turnovers, field position and how effectively Indiana’s offense has converted opportunities into points.
Offensive Concerns Continue
Indiana managed just 212 total yards against Michigan, raising questions about offensive-line consistency, running-game creativity, Josh Hoover’s efficiency and the ability to finish drives. Coach Griff will discuss adjustments necessary to compete for Big Ten and national championships.
Could 11 Wins Still Leave Indiana Out of the Playoff?
What if Indiana finishes the regular season 11–1, reaches the Big Ten Championship Game and loses to Ohio State? Could an 11–2 Indiana team be passed over for an 11–1 team that did not play in its conference title game—or a 10–2 SEC contender with more ranked victories?
We’ll examine the Big Ten, SEC, ACC and Big 12 playoff picture, strength of schedule, rankings and the selection committee’s criteria. These are hypothetical scenarios, not predictions of the final standings.
