What carries over when conference play starts?

Tonight’s conversation builds on our “What Travels?” statistical preview. The numbers provide a starting point. The football question is whether Indiana can keep executing when the opponent makes the answers harder to find.

For Josh Hoover, that means making sound decisions when the first read is covered and keeping the offense on schedule. For Turbo Richard and the offensive line, it means creating a dependable rushing game. For Charlie Becker, it means turning opportunities in the passing game into productive plays without needing every possession to become a highlight.

On defense, the conversation starts with discipline. Rolijah Hardy and the Hoosiers must tackle well, fit the run and make Northwestern earn its yards. Pressure matters, but pressure that opens an escape lane can solve a problem for the opposing quarterback.

Know your opponent: the Northwestern questions

Aidan Chiles is central to the scouting conversation. We will look at the challenge his mobility presents and why Indiana’s rush lanes must work together. Getting upfield is only useful if the defense can finish the play.
